About Me

Hi!  My name is Jake Dietz, and welcome to my blog.  What can you expect from this blog?  Simply put, it is the tales of my adventures as a dad.  Most of the time, the stories are funny, sometimes they are sad, but I promise to always be honest in what I write here.  I am not a perfect parent, so if you are coming here for advice on how to raise your children, keep looking.  This is really just a way for me to share my experiences with the rest of the world.

Johnny

A little background on me  and my kids.  In 2007, our first child was born.  We named him Johnny, and I was thrilled to have a son to carry on the family name, and the tradition of geek hood.  He was a perfect little baby in every way, and my wife and I were thrilled.  So thrilled, in fact that we could hardly wait to add another to the brood.  That was our first daughter, Eliza.  Eliza had one purpose in coming into this world, and that was to turn our lives upside down and change the way we looked at everything.  Eliza was identified as having a hearing loss.  It was mild to moderate, but the type of loss she had would continue to progress until she lost her hearing completely.  We were shocked.

Eliza

Eliza having the hearing loss made us begin to wonder about Johnny, now nearly two, and not talking at all.  We had his hearing tested and found out he was completely deaf.  In a matter of months, our whole world had changed.  Looking back on it now, I can say it has changed for the better.  In the moment, I don't think I could say that.

By the time Eliza was was beginning to walk, my wife found herself pregnant again.  Our next little man entered our lives shortly afterward.  His name is Jak, and he is the inspiration for my Jak-isms feature.  He is a funny kid, with a lot of little quirks that make him who he is, and we love him for it.  His hearing is fine, even if his listening could use a little work, but he's 4, so what do you expect.

Jak

After Jak, came our next little girl, Lucy.  Lucy is an angel.  Most of the time.  Well, sometimes, when we don't have our backs turned.  The minute we're not looking, lookout, hurricane Lucy has landed.  She fancies herself an artist and has added many a mural to our walls.  So sweet.  Like her two oldest siblings, Lucy has a hearing loss.

Lucy

13 months after Lucy was born, we welcomed the baby to the family.  Our little Maren.  She is so sweet, but she is no pushover.  She has learned in her young age that she needs to fight for everything she wants, or some older sibling will take it.

Maren

That's my life, and what qualifies me to write this blog.  Like I mentioned before, I am not perfect.  I am just a regular guy, a regular dad, just trying to get it all figured out.  Maybe, somewhere along the way, I will get it figured out, and it might help you too.
